Your lifestyle, your health, your choices.

Lifestyle and Cancer - how close is their relationship?

On Friday November 10th we will be holding a one day Lifestyle & Cancer Conference at the Chartridge Conference Centre in Chesham in collaboration with the College of Medicine.

The Conference aims to raise awareness of the importance of lifestyle in cancer prevention and management.

Entitled 'Lifestyle and Cancer - How close is their relationship?' this conference will demonstrate why a healthy lifestyle is a universally available and powerful anti-cancer intervention.

The charity Cancer Research UK states that 1 in 2 people in the UK will develop cancer at some point in their lives. Every year, more than 350,000 people are diagnosed with the disease. But experts could estimate that more than 4 in 10 cancer cases could be prevented, largely through lifestyle changes.

It can be difficult to make sustainable lifestyle changes, but there are so many health benefits: the conference aims to build awareness and understanding of the relationship between lifestyle and cancer and how to reduce your risk.

Our speakers will all be medical professionals, including general practitioners, oncologists, researchers and surgeons. Among the speakers are:

  • Mr. Thomas Ind, Gynecological Oncology Surgeon, The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust

  • Dr. Kathleen Thompson, Medical Doctor, Drug Researcher and Breast Cancer Patient, Author of 'From Both Ends of the Stethoscope: Getting through breast cancer - by a doctor who knows'

  • Dr. Jo Lee, Co-Founder of LYLAC (Live Your Life After Cancer), GP, Life Coach, Cancer Survivor

  • Dr. Robert Thomas, Oncologist Consultant at Addenbrooke's and Bedford Hospitals, visiting Professor at Cranfield University and Clinical Teacher at Cambridge University

The Conference is open to the general public who are interested in learning more about this important subject as well as interested medical professionals and complementary practitioners.

The day will include inspiring and educational talks by experts in their field, a healthy lunch and refreshments throughout. There will also be opportunities to experience Doctor-led meditation and mindfulness classes during the breaks.
