In this illustrated talk, City Guide and retired banker Tim Kidd explores the Bank of England's large collection of fine and decorative art.
About this event
“Never mind quantitative easing, show us the bling!”
In this richly illustrated lecture, City Guide and retired banker Tim Kidd takes a peep at the Bank's impressive art collection. The Bank's holdings comprise some 40,000 items, ranging from fine and decorative art to archaeological finds and everyday items and spanning some 1500 years. Its paintings, prints and drawings include images of the Bank's historic buildings, London landscapes, and portraits of staff.
This talk is being held around the corner from the Bank of England itself in St Mary Abchurch, one of Sir Christopher Wren's finest City churches. The lecture will be followed with tea and cake, and an opportunity to explore the church and buy Friends' books and merchandise. Guests may also consider visiting the Bank of England Museum before the talk (Monday to Friday, 10am to 5pm, entrance on Bartholomew Lane).
Those who are unable to attend in person can follow the talk online with a Zoom live stream bookable via https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/the-bank-of-england-art-collection-zoom-tickets-312111222067.
