About this event

Community • Historic

One summer night in 1840 a young colliery supervisor is “barbarously murdered” for a pocket watch, handkerchief, and small change. An incredible story, full of twists and turns, unfolds as the police make arrests, a trial follows, but who is guilty and what punishment is imposed? The story is one Dickens would be proud of and has many parallels with his work. Come and join me to explore crime and punishment in the early Victorian era.

The event is donation only. All donations will be paid to Wigan & Leigh Hospice.

Please arrive for a prompt 1.30pm start in the Haigh Community room.

Directions: Please make your way to the green doors opposite the main carpark. Volunteers will be on hand to direct you upstairs above the Courtyard to our Community Room.
