Join business leaders like you at the
November Giants Academy.
This month our theme is:
"The Battle For Great People"
With Richard Wood - MD of growth agency Grain
As they successfully grow their businesses, many owners are now making a real priority of finding and retaining the right people.
Increased mobility within the job market, enabled by the internet, has reduced the traditional barriers that made it a challenge to find a new job and for employers to find candidates. Gone are the days of scanning through job adverts in the newspaper!
Whilst there are benefits for both job-seekers and employers, this huge shift in the nature of the job market means that businesses who want to find, develop and retain the best people need to be equally as agile and adaptable as the candidates they seek.
Richard Wood is a man who knows all about this. Having headed up a number of large businesses in the creative and digital sectors in both London and Manchester, he regards the management of “talent” as being vital to achieving great results. He believes that if you get this wrong you miss out on the best people; ending up with mediocre performance, poor client experience and increased costs. Fundamentally, he believes that the intentional management of talent - i.e. the collective capability of the team and workforce - is central to ensuring business success.
Richard will be sharing some of the strategies that he’s used along the way and we will then look at some useful tools for managing that collective capability.
Richard Wood is a London born, Kiwi raised award-winning marketer and digital entrepreneur. He has spent the better part of the last 15 years working on both client and agency side with clients such as G4S, Ford, Travelers and The Financial Times.
Most recently Richard lead the growth and expansion of The Media Octopus, developing a small but talented team in to a national and now global customer acquisition agency.
Now Managing Director for Grain, a Manchester based Growth Agency, Richard is working hard to create an environment and ethos that team members want to be part of and clients want to work with.
What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
There's a lot of parking within walking distance, but please bear in mind that it is a city-centre venue and traffic into the city may be heavy. NCP Car park options can be found here: http://goo.gl/IkCeY5
Market Street and St Peter's Square Metrolink stations are both less than 10 minutes walk away.
What time should I arrive?
We're open for arrivals and informal networking from 5:30pm and the event starts shortly after 6:00pm
Will I have to do anything?
Our events are usually in two parts. An interview with a regular business person, who will share some of the things they've learnt along the way, covering both successes and those less-than-succesful times we all have. Roger and Nick will then lead a short, interactive session to explore some of that learning about what makes businesses work in a slightly deeper way. It's relaxed and informal and no expertise or skills are required other than a genuine interest in helping your own business to be giant!
Will there be refreshments?
We'll have soft drinks and small nibbles available at the start and during break.
Can we carry on chatting in the pub afterwards?
Yes! There's no shortage of great beer houses near by which are great places to continue the discussion or have a drink together.
