An examination of how the Norfolk Regiment's different campaigns against the Ottoman Empire were Crossley interlinked. Talk followed by Q&A in the Auditorium by Dr Paul Knight. Dr Knight is a Major in the Army Reserve and is the Army's First World War project officer for the North West of England. He served two tours in Iraq and is the author of The British Army in Mesopotamia, 1914-1918.

In early 1917, three battalions of the Norfolk Regiment were fighting in the Middle East - in Mesopotamia, the reconstituted 2nd Battalion extracted revenge on the loss of the original battalion in the Siege of Kut with the capture of Baghdad. In Egypt, the 1/4th and 1/5th Battalions would avenge Gallipoli by breaking into Palestine.

These two campaigns are usually viewed in isolation but were actually closely linked - success on one front relieved pressure on the other; failure on a front released Ottoman troops to fight on another.

Paul Knight examines how the Norfolk Regiment's different campaigns against the Ottoman Empire were Crossley interlinked.
