The Beauty of Courage
Fri 21 April 2017, 18:30 – 21:30 BST
‘Beauty and the Beast’ has been creatively adapted by Suzanna Battishill, Hunny Grainger, Lucy Holmes and Hanniel Philip as their final devised piece for A’ level Theatre Studies. It has been influenced by the harrowing, true events which occurred in Ariel Castro’s house Cleveland, Ohio. Here, he abducted and kept captive three girls, during which he continuously abused, tortured and sexually assaulted them before they managed to escape. The performance has been designed for a modern, adult audience and the mental and physical regression caused by abuse over a 10-year time frame are illustrated through ‘Belle’ in four distinct depictions. Described as “an outstanding piece of theatre” by the examiner this year, we are proud to present these two performances as a fund raising initiative.
