The Beers, Burgers + Bleach Podcast
Location
Online event
An exploration into the challenges of working and organising within hospitality during the Covid-19 pandemic, and ways of fighting back.
About this event
How have hospitality workers’ roles changed throughout the pandemic? How are they keeping the venues and their toilets clean? Do the new safety regulations come at any cost to the workers themselves, and how can their rights be protected?
This podcast series explores the experiences of people working within the hospitality sector throughout the pandemic, drawing on research findings from ‘Beers, Burgers and Bleach: Hygiene, Toilets and Hospitality during Covid-19’. Through the podcasts, we consider what it’s been like to work within the restrictions of the pandemic and government guidance; discuss some of the wins and demands made by workers over the past year; and ask what might be done to achieve better conditions for hospitality workers in the future. Each podcast episode will include guest speakers with knowledge and experience of the hospitality sector right now, including workers, trade union organisers, and campaigners.
The podcast episodes will be launched on the following dates and will be freely available afterwards:
- Struggles - Friday 5th November
- Solidarities - Friday 12th November
- Sanitation - Friday 19th November
Please register for the event on any of the three dates, and you will receive a link to every episode on their launch dates.
This podcast is part of the ESRC Festival of Social Science and is based on research funded by the University of Exeter’s Wellcome Centre for Cultures and Environments of Health (WCCEH) led by Dr Charlotte Jones, Dr Lauren White, Dr Jen Slater and Dr Jill Pluquailec, in close collaboration with hospitality workers, trade unions and local campaigns.
