The Beirut Groove Collective at The Jago
Event Information
About this event
Now entering its 13th year, the Beirut Groove Collective (BGC) is the premier destination for soul-fuelled clubbing records from ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s Middle-East, Africa and the rest of the world.
This month, the BGC hosts special guest Keb Darge. The legendary Scottish DJ is a tastemaker across the UK music scene – from his days spinning at Stafford, bringing new discoveries to the northern soul scene, to the legendary deep funk nights he threw weekly at Madame Jojos for 10+ years. These days he has an enviable collection of obscure, wild and hair raising '60s garage rockers, spinning at clubnights such as Sixties Rebellion and The Cave Club.
For over a decade, the DJ collective has thrown one of the Middle East’s most popular clubnights in Beirut, pioneering obscure records from Lebanon, Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, Armenia. Representing an underground alternative to the nightlife of Beirut through regular parties in basement clubs, alternative beach venues and warehouse spaces at the forgotten fringes of the city, the BGC has been home for genuine crate-diggers and taste makers from all over the world. Now the BGC has brought their distinctive sound to London city!
The New York Times included the BGC clubnights in their list of the "Top 15" parties around the world, and they've been featured everywhere from The Guardian and Monocle Magazine to ARTE, the BBC, Time Out London and Vice Magazine.
Expect to hear pioneering, genre-forming and obscure records from Lebanon, Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, Armenia, Kenya and all around the world – from Ethio Jazz and Bellydance Psych to Armenian Org Stompers, Lebanese '60s Garage
