Description

This meeting will be on the topic of Research Software Engineering (RSE). 92% of research is dependent on software specific to the research. It seems likely that this trend will only increase and yet there is no recognised way to fund or deliver software developed for research purposes. The need for the role of an RSE is now being recognised by research councils good research software accelerates scientific discovery and ensures consistency.


The main talk will look at one model to manage the RSE role within a research environment. The talks start at 3pm but refreshments will be available from 2:30pm to allow for networking.

  • The new head of Research IT at the University of Leeds, Mike Croucher, will introduce himself.

  • Alan Ashton who leads the data analysis RSE team at Diamond Light Source, a national research facility, will talk on the topic of "The Benefits of an RSE Team".
