Event description

Description

Trauma isn’t Sexy is the third in a series of 4 workshops all about sex, pleasure, consent, trauma and communication! This workshop investigates these questions in a series of optional, interactive discussions and activities-

What is trauma?

What is the relation between a traumatic experience and post-traumatic stress?

What is ‘survival mode’ and how does it manifest?

What is happening in our bodies when we feel scared or angry or anxious or depressed or dissociated?

What is the relation between trauma and our mental health?

What actually is a ‘trigger’ and what is going on when we are triggered?

What’s the relationship between sexual desire and trauma and how might this manifest for different people?

Why do people keep telling us to meditate or do yoga?

This workshop is an opportunity to develop an understanding of what trauma is and how it operates in our bodies and minds. This workshop aims to empower participants by providing psycho-education on trauma theory, as well as providing a calm, non-judgmental space in which participants are invited to reflect on their own experiences.

We will-

- engage in discussions, activities and personal reflection to explore the questions above

- cultivate an atmosphere that is open-minded, kind and respectful to a variety of perspectives, sexual proclivities and ideas

- have a chill zone available throughout the workshop where anyone is welcome to retreat to if they feel overwhelmed / triggered

- have a No Questions Asked policy for anyone who leaves the workshop at any point

We won’t-

- do any sexual activity of any kind

- be asked or expected to share any personal information about our own sexual experiences

- assume any knowledge prior to the workshop

- expect people to be familiar with any specific terminology

** YOU DO NOT NEED TO HAVE EXPERIENCED (SEXUAL) TRAUMA FOR THIS WORKSHOP TO BE RELEVANT!**

A note on tickets-

We are running a tiered ticketing system at this event, in order to be as accessible as possible. Tickets for individual workshops range from free to £40, and from free to £140 for the whole series, depending on attendees' current and historic income and inheritance.

This system will run on the basis of trust - no one will be asked to prove their eligibility for their chosen ticket type. Rather, we at The Better Sex Workshop Series acknowledge that there are multiple factors at play that determine how much anyone can afford to spend on tickets to an event such as this at any given time.

We don't want anyone to be prohibited from attending as a result of cost, and so those who identify at all with the circumstances described in the Scholarship ticket section are warmly encouraged not to hesitate to reserve their rightful place at the workshop! Again, with no questions asked.

The most expensive ticket option is significantly cheaper than standard, equivalent trainings in the gender-based violence / sexual violence / trauma-informed practise / sex and relationships education sectors, so those able to pay for the more expensive tickets are still getting a cracking bargain!

The deposit is in place to avoid extortionate service fees on Eventbrite. The rest of the ticket cost will be paid on the door, preferably by card. There are limited spaces available at these workshops so please do get in touch if you are no longer able to attend but have put down a deposit, so we can free up space for someone else who would like to attend. Many thanks, and apologies for the faff!

Looking forward to seeing you all there! Please feel encouraged to email contact@rutheliot.com for any more queries!
