This information webinar will give primary school practitioners and learners or anyone with an interest in social and emotional learning an insight into The Big Five, a values based PSHE programme for 5 to 11 year olds. It will particularly focus on our new BSL values resources and how children with different needs and abilities have responded to the programme.
The BIG 5 builds 5 social and emotional learning skills (self-regulation, social awareness, building relationships, responsible decision-making and social awareness skills) through 5 values (peace, truth, love, responsibilty and community) and 5 PSHE themes (onboard safeguarding/everyday consent, health and wellbeing, respectful relationships, equality, and global goals).
The foundation of The BIG 5 is that RSE knowledge is taught through a values-based, spiral curriculum and SEL skills are rehearsed explicitly through a set of rituals in each session. We use meditation, values inquiry debate, stories, singing and journal reflection. The curriculum operates on a 2-year rolling programme with 6 sessions from one of each of the 5 values covering the academic year. The programme can be delivered flexibly to suit each setting.
Participants have the opportunity of a free 2-week trial of the programme once they have attended the webinar.
