"Incredible, inspiring, thought-provoking and a definite would do it again event" - Big Night Walk London 2017 Participant
Following the successful event in 2017, The Big London Night Walk will return on Friday 2nd March 2018 (date TBC). Join us for a Friday night with a difference, and change the lives of hardworking Big Issue vendors on their journeys forward.
It will be an experience like no other. Starting off in central London at St John’s Church, Waterloo, the unique 13 mile route (approx.) through central London will take you on a tour of the iconic sites at night. It will be an eye-opening experience and you’ll hear personal insights from Big Issue vendors before you start.
When someone is new to rough sleeping they keep moving at night, they have to keep walking to keep safe: “It’s a survival tactic for someone on the street” – James Bowen
That’s why the Big Issue Foundation hosts an annual Big London Night Walk, it helps people to discover their city and connect to a challenge faced by people we are supporting. Walk with us as we pass iconic London sights at night, whilst learning more about homelessness and lives of Big Issue vendors in the city.
Hot drinks and snacks will be provided and the finish venue will remain open for participants until transport re-starts, as your finish time is likely to be between 1am and 4am, depending on your speed and time at rest stops.
Whether you’re a group of friends looking to get fit by training for an alternative night out, or an individual looking to see a different side to London, this is the charity event for you!
All the money raised from The Big Night Walk 2018 will support the vital work of The Big Issue Foundation so we can help more Big Issue vendors in their difficult journeys away from the poverty of their situations. This may be helping a vendor to find a safe place to live, reconnecting with family and loved ones, improving their personal health and well-being or training and development that will lead to a new career. Please do take part in full knowledge of this, you’ll be motivated to take every step until you reach the finish in the early hours on the Saturday morning.
