The Big Moss Map is a survey of Sphagnum moss in the Peak District and South Pennines.
We are looking for volunteers to walk sections of path and look out for patches of Sphagnum. We’d like you to tell us whether you saw any Sphagnum or not and if you did, some information about the patches you saw.
This training event will explain why Sphagnum is important, how you can tell Sphagnum moss apart from other mosses in the field and provide you with all you need to contribute to The Big Moss Map. There will be a presentation at the Sheffield & Rotherham Wildlife Trust headquarters at Victoria Hall looking at Sphagnum ID and the survey method, followed by an outdoor session where we will practice identifying Sphagnum and the survey method along a moorland footpath on The Wildlife Trust's stunning Blacka Moor reserve.
