Where is it?

Land & Wave Sandbanks is located next to the big beach car park on Banks Road, Sandbanks (next to the crazy golf).  Upon arrival, a member of Land & Wave staff will meet and greet you and direct you to the beach where we'll be taking a dip en masse!

Question 2

What shall I bring?

Accepted Answer

Your brightest, jazziest swimwear, a towel, a flask of hot drink, woolly hat.  You may wish to wear wetsuit gloves / wetsuit shoes -  these are optional. At this time of year most people will just stay in for a couple of minutes - you can show your solidarity by dipping a toe or going fully in!

Are men allowed to come?

Yes! Anyone who wants to come and support their loved ones is very welcome!

Question 4

Do I need to be able to swim?

Accepted Answer

Yes - this is a sea dip, so you need to be able to swim and keep yourself safe. There will be beach lifeguards on duty

Question 5

Can children take part?

Accepted Answer

Due to the time of year and the temperature, we recommend this event for ages 14+. Younger children are  welcome to come and play on the beach and watch.

Question 6

Any tips for sea swimming in March?

Accepted Answer

Acclimatise slowly, take deep steady breaths and don't stay in too long.  Avoid getting your head wet. Get out of your wet costume quickly and change into warm layers. Have a hot drink to hand.

Tell me more about the prize draw?

Accepted Answer

Every person who takes part in the BIG Sandbanks Sea Dip will automatically be entered into a raffle prize draw. Prizes include an adventure voucher from Land & wave, a swim retreat from The Wild Swimming Company, clothing goodies, a salon voucher and more!

Is there parking?

Accepted Answer

Yes there is a huge car park, plus on street paid parking available. Please do car share if you can.

Question 9

Are there changing rooms?

Accepted Answer

Everyone will be getting changes on the beach, so bring a changing robe / DryRobe / or a helper to hold a towel for you. There are public toilets on the sea front by the beach office. It's a good idea to have your cozzie on under your clothes so you're ready to go.

Question 10

Will you be taking photos?

Accepted Answer

Yes. There will be a photographer and someone will be taking drone footage of the event. We'll share these photos post-event.

Question 11

What if the weather is bad?

Accepted Answer

If the event has to be cancelled due to bad weather, we'll contact you with a rescheduled date.

Question 12

What if the event is cancelled due to water quality issues?

Accepted Answer

If the event has to be cancelled due to sewage in the sea, then let's show up on the beach and make a stand!
