The Bingley Byron's Birthday Bash

By Bradwan

Overview

Glyn Watkins celebrates John Nicholson's birthday, Bradford's 1st famous poet. Fell in the River Aire 1843 at midnight whilst drunk. Died.

John Nicholson grew up in Eldwick & spent most of his life in Bradford as a wool comber, wool sorter, and poet. His only sin was intemperance, and the inability to keep any of the money he made from his poetry in his own pocket.

There were a Thousand people at his funeral in 1843, at Bingley Churchyard.

He was remembered in Eldwick and around Bingley until at least the 60's. Now Glyn Watkins, a poet who drinks, is trying to rivive interest in an artist ignored by his own cultural City.

The show will last about an hour, followed by a walk to Nicholson's re-sited grave in Bingley Cemetary. Anyone who whats to join Glyn for beer can then follow him to The Peacock, Bingley, where they can get 10% off their food order.
