Event description

Description

A public lecture by Professor Jenny Southgate (University of York)

No-one thinks about their bladder -until it goes wrong -but some children are born with “bad” bladders and the incidence of urinary incontinence increases markedly with age. Urinary tract infections are the most common of all infections treated with antibiotics, and are themselves the major cause of kidney transplantation in children and of transplant failure in later life. On top of this is bladder cancer. Although often overlooked by research funders, bladder cancer is the 7th most common cause of cancer deaths and the most expensive of all cancers to treat.
In this lecture, Professor Southgate will consider how our research into the biology of this fascinating tissue is providing insight into the lifelong causes, and potential cures, of bladder disease.

Please note new venue - this lecture will be held in the Bronte Lecture Theatres on the Queensgate Campus

The lecture begins at 6.30pm with complimentary refreshments served from 6.00pm.
