The Body As Material - In Conversation
Overview
Jess is a multidisciplinary artist and politics student at the University of Cambridge. Born in London and raised across various parts of Africa before moving to Wiltshire, her work sits at the intersection of material technology and human connection, translating lived experience into experimental, wearable forms.
The Body as Material is an ongoing project that critically examines how female bodies, particularly brown bodies, are consumed, disciplined, and replaced within the global system. This project links critical theory with lived experiences to explore the intersections of identity, power, and resistance. It also delves into sameness and the erosion of humanity, to highlight how these bodies can transform from objects of exploitation into powerful agents of change.
Supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England, and supported by The Brixton Project.
