The Books of the Future with Kerry Young, Carys Bray, Anthony Cond and Peggy Hughes
This is a perilous and uncertain time for books and writers. In a digital age, with publishing houses under great financial pressures and small presses struggling to survive (as well as diminishing media coverage of serious writing), many authors find it hard to get attention and make a living. Women and minority writers face particular challenges.
What, then, is the future of the book itself, and of a democratic and diverse range of writers and publications? To discuss this, our panel comprises celebrated novelist Kerry Young, Costa First Novel Award shortlisted Carys Bray, Director of Liverpool University Press Anthony Cond and Peggy Hughes, Director of Literary Dundee.
