The Books That Built Me is an elegant literary salon, a desert island discs for authors, or as Sarah Churchwell, author of Careless People, wrote, it's 'how the books you love meet the books you write'.
The next salon is with Andy Miller, author of The Year of Reading Dangerously, in conversation with Times 100 blogger, Mrs Trefusis on 1st July 2014. Described by The Telegraph as 'High Fidelity for bookworms', The Year of Reading Dangerously is much more than a list of all the books Andy Miller claims to have read, but never has: it's an irreverent, witty and inspiring memoir about the power books have to change us, the joys of reading and how a comparative reading of Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code and Moby Dick is not quite as bonkers as it sounds.
This latest Books That Built Me salon is a must for anyone who loves books, but who can also, perhaps, relate to Alan Bennett's definition of a classic: "a book that everyone is assumed to have read and often thinks they have".
The salon starts with a bespoke cocktail, inspired by one of the Books That Built our guest author, and created by award-winning mixologists at The Club at Cafe Royal. Penhaligons will also gently scent the salon to help create a relaxing, elegant mood, and have provided a gift for everyone in the goodybag.
