The BRAIN Network: A Journey of ABI Support - Admission and Discharge

You're invited to attend the second networking and training event of the Bristol Rehabilitation And Independence Network (BRAIN) – a group connecting professionals who support people living with acquired brain injuries.

The network aims to bring people together to share knowledge, experience, advice, and provide mutual support. In this meetup we continue exploring Charlie's story and focus on the time she spends in hospital, the way her medical team supports her and prepares her for discharge.

In this session we will be joined by Dr Julian Harriss, Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine and Managing Director of IRMA: Independent Rehabilitation Medicine Assessments.

Dr Harriss will cover a number of topics pertinent to Charlie and other patients with a similar presentation including:

  • The role of a neurologist vs a consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine
  • GCS – relevance to initial severity and longer-term prognosis
  • Investigations and radiology and their role or otherwise in classification of injury severity
  • The team around the patient: acutely and longer-term
  • Support for the family
  • Discharge considerations and process
  • Availability and value of rehab prescription

Teas and coffees will be provided from 17:30 - 18:30.

The session will run from 18:00 - 19:20 and will be followed by networking drinks and nibbles.
