Overview

The Bruce dynasty gave Scotland its most famous king, but few people know of their ancestral heartland: the border lordship of Annandale.

Every student of Scottish history knows the Bruces—the dynasty that gave Scotland its most famous king. Far fewer, however, know the story of their ancestral heartland: the border lordship of Annandale.

This expert history webinar will explore 50 years of the lordship’s bloody history through the experiences of its most well-known families: from the Carlisles, Carruthers, and Corries to the Johnstones and Kirkpatricks.

Join William Mulloy in revisiting the amazing stories of those who once stood, shoulder-to-shoulder, with Scotland’s most famous dynasty. Together, using new doctoral research, we’ll examine how decades of Anglo-Scottish conflict, civil war, and royal captivity reshaped the very fabric of Annandale’s political society.
