Description

The Buried Moon
Look beneath the surface

The Strange Names Collective, the University of Cumbria and Lakes Culture invite you to the Ambleside campus this summer to find out what lies beneath what we think we know about this World Heritage cultural landscape. The Buried Moon is a three-part artwork exploring landscape and the cultural history of geology in the Lake District through a performance by Philip Stanier, Penny Newell and Gillian Lees, alongside a photographic exhibition and virtual reality experience by Wayne Burrows and animated by Adam York Gregory which allows viewers to drift below the surface, into the deep interior of the earth.

The Buried Moon is one of six newly-commissioned, contemporary pieces of art for Lakes Ignite 2018; celebrating the Lake District becoming a World Heritage site. Each installation provides a different perspective on our World Heritage story using very different media. They are free to view at different locations in Cumbria from January through to July 2018. More information on Lakes Ignite can be found at www.lakesculture.co.uk

The Buried Moon is part of the University of Cumbria’s 10 year anniversary celebrations. The 10-year milestone sees the university reflect on its outstanding achievements and look ahead to future growth as a specialist institution providing world-class education and opportunities. For more information on the University of Cumbria's 10 year celebrations see www.cumbria.ac.uk/ten-years

This ticket is for the specified performance slot only. We recommend you arrive early so that you can experience the exhibition and VR experience before the performance starts. The Exhibition and VR experience will also be open for a short period of time after the performance. Please note the performance takes place outdoors in the square outside the Percival Lecture Theatre.
