The Business of Creativity: A Producing Guide
Overview
The Business of Creativity: A Producing Guide
Ever wondered how creative projects actually get off the ground? Join me, Sarah Penney, a working theatre producer with a decade of experience making shows and community projects happen across the UK, for a one-day workshop all about the practical side of producing.
Together we’ll unpack the nuts and bolts of bringing an idea to life, from budgets and funding to planning and delivery in a way that’s easy to follow, useful and a bit of fun too!
Hull is full of brilliant artists and ideas, but there aren’t many producers around to help make those ideas happen. Producing is a vital part of the creative process. It’s what turns inspiration into action, ideas into events and plans into impact. This session aims to bridge that gap, giving more people the confidence and know-how to make work happen here in Hull and beyond.
Across the day, we’ll break things down into simple, manageable steps to help you feel more confident managing money, timelines and logistics. You’ll learn how to cost up a project, where funding can come from and how to keep things running smoothly once the ball is rolling.
This session is friendly and informal, designed for artists, creatives and early-career producers who want to turn great ideas into real projects. You don’t need to be a numbers person (or even call yourself a producer!) to take part, just bring your curiosity and a willingness to learn.
You’ll leave with practical tools, templates and tips you can use right away, plus a clearer picture of how to make creative work happen from start to finish.
