The Campaign for Social Science is visiting Newcastle on 22nd June for a joint event involving social scientists from Northumbria University and Newcastle University. The venue is the Great Hall in Northumbria University's Sutherland Building.
The Business of People is the Campaign’s report into the state of social science in the UK and makes several recommendations for establishing a stronger foundation for social science over the next decade. The report will form the basis of a discussion of the role of social scientists with themes including interdisciplinary collaboration, public engagement and external impact.
Emeritus Professor John Goddard OBE, Professor of Regional Development Studies at Newcastle University and board member of the Campaign for Social Science said “This event will be an excellent platform for discussion of how social scientists in the region can collaborate and reach out beyond the academy for the benefit of the economy and society.”
From the Campaign for Social Science: Roses Leech-Wilkinson, Research & Policy Officer; Stephen Anderson, Director
From Northumbria University: Professor Keith Shaw, Research and Innovation Lead, Social Sciences & Languages

The event is open to social scientists and groups with a professional interest in the themes outlined, including civil servants, based in the North East.
When & Where
Campaign for Social Science
The Campaign for Social Science was set up in 2011 to raise the profile of social science with the government, the media and the wider public.
In Spring 2015 we are visiting universities around the UK to promote the recommendations of our pre-election report The Business of People - #bizofpeople. We want to engage as many social scientists as possible in our mission to forge a unified and amplified voice for social science that will increase its impact and influence.
