Description

Asking good questions: five years of exploring the evidence and impact debate

The Gathering 2019 will take place across two days. On Tuesday 5 Novemeber we willl hold a day long practical workshop and on Wednesday 6 November we will be holding our annual conference, which will focus on creating space for the most exciting and thought-provoking ideas through a series of plenary sessions.

We’d love it if you joined us for both days, of course, but we recognise that some people will find one of the days more relevant than the other. We’re offering tickets for each day separately, and for the two days (with a discount), including an informal get together on the evening of the first day.

Day one of the Centre’s annual event will be the Practice Development Day: a full-day intensive induction to the Centre’s approach to evaluating youth work and provision for young people. The day will be best suited to participants who are in the early stages of embedding evaluation into their practice, within an organisation that supports and shares their commitment to learning. The day will take a ‘case study’ approach, working through practical and contextual examples. Read more about who the day is for here.

The day’s learning objectives are for participants to:

  • Understand how and why the question ‘does it work?’ is made up of six questions in our approach to evaluation
  • Experience what “meaningful evaluation” looks like and feels like in practice
  • Consider how the Centre’s approach can be applied in their organisations

If you would like to know more details about the day, or have any questions about whether it would be right for you, please get in touch with Mary.

Day two of the Centre’s annual event will be the conference: a full-day line up of interesting and challenging speakers, with opportunities for Q&A throughout. The day will be structured around three key questions:

  • Where have we all got to in our relationship with evidence?
  • Are we really ‘working out what works’?
  • Should we be in the business of ‘managing impact’ or systems change?
