This webinar panel is designed to provide a framework for understanding and helping facilitate a client’s journey of coping with interpersonal trauma. We will focus on understanding the impact of patriarchy and stereotypical gender norms on the experience of and response to traumas, such as intimate partner violence and sexual assault, and consider how this should influence assessment of trauma and gender-based stigma and prejudice in different clinical settings. Recommendations for working with clients who have experienced intimate partner violence will be presented, including addressing moral injury. We will discuss the relationship between PTSD and co-occurring psychological disorders, like eating disorders, and present an overview of an integrated treatment for this population that uses ACT processes. Ways that popular culture can be integrated into ACT to enhance trauma-focused therapy will also be introduced.
