The Cobble Wobble — the original and only cycle race to climb Catherine Hill — is the most fun and inclusive cycling event on the calendar. Still run by its founders, it’s professional, passionate, and packed with personality: a celebration that transcends traditional cycling culture and connects with people through pure, joyful spectacle.

It’s a hill climb sprint up the brutally steep cobbled street of Catherine Hill in Frome. Think cheese rolling meets the Red Bull Soapbox Race — but uphill, and on two wheels. It’s ridiculous. It’s spectacular. And it’s a full-hearted celebration of cycling in all its forms. Faux prestige meets playful absurdity, attracting everyone from everyday riders to Olympians. Past competitors include World Champions and legends like Michal Prokop, Dan Craven, and Chris Akrigg.

The format is simple and exciting: riders take on the hill one at a time, with the fastest time winning. We welcome all age groups and bike types — from e-bikes to cargo bikes, fancy dress to hand cyles — with a dramatic night-time finale under the spotlights. The event features live commentary, music, street food, coffee, and bars, creating a festival atmosphere in the heart of Frome.

Frequently asked questions

Will I make it to the top?

Definitely! And it really doesn’t matter if you have to get off and push — that’s all part of the fun. As long as you start on a bike, you can finish however you like.

But, do I need to be a strong cyclist?

No, honestly — it really doesn’t matter. As long as you can give it a go safely, any level of fitness is welcome. If you can balance and make it to the top without overdoing it, you’re good to go. Plodding is just as cool as sprinting.

How old do you have to be to enter?

As long as you can ride a bike — whatever kind of bike that is — you can give it a go. There’s even a category for kids on balance bikes, plus a half-distance course for little legs that might not manage the full climb.

What age category will I be placed in?

Your age category is based on how old you are on the day of the event (14th September 2025). Just enter your date of birth when signing up — we’ll automatically place you in the right category.

What type of bike can I ride?

Anything, really — BMX, mountain bike, e-bike, town bike, road bike, touring bike, gravel bike, folding bike, hand cycle, cargo bike, trike, wheelchair cycle, balance bike… you name it. The only thing that doesn’t quite work is bikes with stabilisers — the cobbles tend to mess with their vibe.

So, can I use a trike, hand cycle, wheelchair or other non standard bicycle?

Absolutely! If you have specific requirements, just get in touch — we’ll do everything we can to make sure you have the support you need.

And just checking, I can I ride an E-bike, right?

Sure, why not?! Ride whatever bike makes you happy. If it’s an e-bike, it must be pedal-assist and meet the UK Government’s EPAC legal requirements. Basically: no e-motorbikes or those rocket-powered bikes you see flying past with a Deliveroo bag on the back.

Will there be prizes?

Absolutely! Thanks to our fantastic event sponsors, we’ll be giving away all sorts of amazing prizes — including bikes!

How do I win a prize?

The winner of each category will receive an awesome goodie bag. Bikes will be given away at random — names drawn from a hat — so everyone’s in with a chance to win!

Will you send me any more info?

For now, all you need to do is enter the event to secure your spot — we’ll fill you in on all the other details in plenty of time.
