Event description

Description

Brighton Comedy course brings 2 glorious days of fun packed tuition in a warm and encouraging atmosphere. If you want the confidence and know-how to get on that stage and make them laugh? This weekend course is your chance to dip your toe in the water. You’ll learn techniques on delivery and timing which will help with confidence and presenting in general. You might not want to be a stand up comedian, you might just want a challenge (and it is that,) meet new people and have fun. At an absolute basic you may find that you actually start to enjoy presentations and public speaking!

This is a practical workshop packed with exercises to create content and put what you’ve learned into practice. You will learn the methods and techniques to enhance your confidence, and make you a stronger presenter.

We will concentrate on a different aspect of comedy and then perform a small piece of material integrating the delivery and stage techniques that we’ve learnt. Everyone gets to perform and everyone receives feedback (and usually laughter,) in return.

There are plenty of writing exercises which often result with having a small stock pile of material. It’s a common misconception that everyone who comes on the course is an extrovert with bags of confidence. It varies, but the teaching and encouragement will gradually (sometimes suddenly) bring out your confidence .The coaching and the environment is designed to bring out your comedy genius and help you shine.

This is also a real socail weekend. We have lunch together and go for drinks too. It's going to be fun!

Need to know

This is a 2 day course.

About Brighton Comedy Course

Brighton Comedy Course was founded in 2011. The first few years the business concentrated solely on comedy coaching though it became evident that many stand-up techniques work effectively in public speaking contexts. Soon, one to one coaching, public speaking & pitching events and team development days for employees were added to the list of offerings.

Every year, the business has expanded and become more and more popular with help of the glowing reviews and word of mouth. Recently the online comedy courses were published for the Stand up Comedy taster and the Creative Writing taster.

This year the business was invited to join the Entrepreneurial Spark programme by NatWest which is opening doors to many leading household-name brands such as Dell and Google.

About Louise Stevenson

Louise Stevenson is a comedian, coach and established writer with almost 20 years industry experience. She encourages participants to find and develop their own natural presenting style and encompass humour to engage an audience. She regularly provides communications training for individuals and organisations.

“The best thing about being a coach is seeing people come out of their shell, watching their confidence flourish and seeing once shy individuals blossom.”

Louise started her comedy career in 1999 on the New Zealand circuit and worked alongside Jimmy Carr, Alan Carr, Rich Hall and Steven K Amos among many others. She was knocked out of Channel 4’s ‘So you think you’re funny’ competition by Russell Brand. Television appearances have included Champagne Comedy on Channel 31 in Melbourne and Channel 4’s Highlights of ‘So you think you’re funny.

What people say about Louise’s training:

“This is the BEST thing I have ever done. I run a business, and often have to stand up in front of large groups, and present. This course has taught me to prepare, taught me to gain audience attention, know when I have that attention, and roll with it. It has totally changed my presentation delivery, and preparation – It's BRILLIANT. A worthwhile investment for any company!"

Jim Cunliffe, Facemediagroup.co.uk

The beginner’s comedy course was one of the most challenging, but rewarding experiences of my life. It was a great opportunity to write and then perform your material in a non-judgemental and supportive environment, but also have it critiqued. Louise is a great teacher and thanks to her years of experience on the comedy circuit, she will provide you with endless invaluable advice for kick-starting your comedy career. Marc Pinto May 2018

“I had some of Louise’s individual time to help me with improving a talk I’m giving. She is amazing, offering some great insights and ideas to my talk, working with me, and what I want to achieve. Thank you so much Louise, I will be back for some more of your magic.”

Wendy Capewell June 2018

“Did the introductory courses for comedy and creative writing (two separate intros) because I'm not quite close enough to Brighton to attend the longer courses. Both intros were excellent. They were really good fun, we learnt a lot in a very short time and Louise is an excellent host and facilitator.”

Joe Larkin March 2018

“I had a 1:1 with Louise to help make some marketing content less "meh"

She was super knowledgeable, broke down my presentation really quickly and came up with a handful of tips that made the world of difference.
Not just a great talent, but able to teach that talent to others as well.
Definitely recommended.”

Stephen Pratley May 2018
