Event description

Description

As a global city, London has experienced rapid population growth in recent years; its roads and streets are feeling the pressure. While walking and cycling have increased, congestion and air quality remain major challenges for the city. Over the next few years these stresses may intensify, but there are also opportunities that can be grasped to change London’s surface transport and urban environment for the better.

Centre for London has established an independent Commission on the Future of London’s Roads and Streets, and is publishing the Commission’s report. This report draws on the expertise of Commissioners and public consultation, to formulate a vision for movement in London, for public health and for the quality of public space, and to set out the policy interventions needed to realise this.

At this launch we will explore what can be done to alleviate the stress on our roads and streets. How can we reduce the proportion of people that are affected by congestion and pollution? How can we use technological innovation for better transport? And how can we frame the future of roads and streets as places as well as conduits of movement?
