Event description

Description

The Royal Commonwealth Society on behalf of the Council of Commonwealth Societies are now inviting expressions of interest from schools and youth groups who would like to attend The Commonwealth Service 2018 at Westminster Abbey!

UK schools and youth groups are invited to register their interest for batches of either 5 or 10 tickets (including students and staff) to attend the Service. You may only apply once per school/youth group.

The deadline for registration is Friday 26th January 2018. Applicants will be notified if they have been successful by Monday 5th February 2018.

Held on Commonwealth Day, the Commonwealth Service at Westminster Abbey is the largest annual multi-faith celebration in the UK.

It typically takes place in the presence of Her Majesty The Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, the British Prime Minister (or a representative), the Commonwealth Secretary-General, High Commissioners, Ambassadors, Commonwealth dignitaries and approximately 700 UK school children.

The Service features a mix of testimonies, readings and musical performances from talented artists across the Commonwealth and will reflect the 2018 Commonwealth theme of, Towards a Common Future.

In recent years the Service has been broadcast live by the BBC and has attracted contributions from Kofi Annan, Ellie Goulding, Sir Richard Branson, and Nobel Peace Prize laureates, Malala Yousafzai and Kailash Satyarthi.

PLEASE NOTE: Registering your interest through Eventbrite DOES NOT GUARANTEE you will receive tickets to the service. Priority will be given to schools who have not attended the Service before. Thereafter, tickets will be allocated by ballot.

If your school is interested in learning about the Commonwealth, why not take part in The Queen's Commonwealth Essay Competition, our flagship literacy programme. The 2018 Competition, focused around the theme Towards a Common Future, is a fantastic way to introduce students to the Commonwealth, develop creative writing skills and get their voices heard.
