The Commonwealth Service will be celebrated at Westminster Abbey on Monday 13th March. The aim of the Service is to celebrate the unity, diversity and linkages of the modern Commonwealth and foster greater understanding of the Commonwealth’s achievements and role, particularly among young people. The Service is the biggest multi-faith celebration in the United Kingdom and features a mixture of testimonies, readings, songs and musical performances.
Each year the Service is based around an annual Commonwealth Theme, which for 2017 is A Peace-building Commonwealth. This is a natural follow-on from the 2016 theme of An Inclusive Commonwealth and reaffirms the Commonwealth Charter principle that ‘international peace and security, sustainable economic growth and development and the rule of law are essential to the progress and prosperity of all’.
UK schools and youth groups are invited to register their interest for batches of either 5 or 10 tickets (including students and staff) to attend the Service. Schools/youth groups will not receive more than 10 tickets so please do not register more than once. The deadline for registration is Friday, 20 January 2017. Applicants will be notified if they have been successful by Friday, 3rd February 2017.
IMPORTANT: Please note that registering interest does not guarantee an invitation to the Service, or that schools and youth groups will receive the requested number of tickets. Priority will be given to schools and youth groups that can show engagement with the Commonwealth (either through participation in The Queen's Commonwealth Essay Competition, school linking and other youth and education projects), that have not attended the Service before and are actively committed to inclusive practices. Thereafter, tickets will be allocated to schools and youth groups by ballot.
If you represent a Girlguiding or Scouts group, please contact email@example.com for an alternative application process.
All travel costs are the responsibility of the participating school or youth group. If you have any questions, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
