A series of talks designed to demystify the process of applying to US colleges.

About this Event

The application process to UK and US universities can be overwhelming for both parents and students alike. We invite you to a series of talks that will help you to navigate application cycles and demystify the process of applying to US colleges in particular.

They will outline the key differences between the US and UK university applications systems and share specialist advice on how students can make their applications to the world’s best universities really stand out.

Through our Q&A sessions, you will have the opportunity to get answers to the questions that are really relevant to the needs of your family and the ambitions of your child.

The day will run as follows:

  • 9.30-10.00 - Arrival/Coffee/Croissants
  • 10.00-11.30 - Seamus Malin, Applying to the US
  • 11.30-11.50- Coffee Break
  • 11.50-12.45 - James Higgins, Applying to the UK
  • 12.45-13.45 - Lunch/sandwiches
  • 13.45-14.30- Erica Sin, Standardised testing: the SAT and ACT
  • 14.30-14.45- Break
  • 14.45-15.45- Holly Cram, The US and Sports scholarships

Speakers

  • Seamus Malin, US admissions consultant and previous Director of Havard’s International Admissions Office
  • James Higgins, Director of University Admissions, Bonas MacFarlane
  • Holly Cram, Founder of Aspire USA
  • Erica Sin, Director of Tutoring at ArborBridge

Seamus Malin has worked with international students for over 50 years, mostly at Harvard and for 15 as an independent counsellor. He will draw from his extensive admissions experience and share invaluable tips for those considering applying to the world’s best universities.

James Higgins is a specialist at preparing students for making simultaneous applications to British and American universities. He runs Bonas MacFarlane's university admissions team, which for over 25 years has prepared students for the leading UK and US universities.

Holly Cram, founder of Aspire USA. All – American and recent field hockey Hall of Fame inductee from the University of Richmond, Virginia and Edinburgh University. Holly went on to represent Scotland and GB with over 150 caps. Having experienced the life-changing benefits the US had to offer, Holly started Aspire USA in 2016 to assist other athletes in the UK and Europe secure athletic scholarships. Aspire USA has placed athletes at Harvard, Stanford, Princeton, Duke, Michigan, Northwestern, UNC Chapel Hill, Brown an many more from the NCAA to the NJCAA.

Erica Sin is a Los Angeles native who graduated with a degree in Economics from the University of California, Los Angeles. With over a decade of experience in standardized testing, she now serves as Director of Tutoring at ArborBridge, a firm specializing in one-on-one, online tutoring for US standardized exams. Erica works with families from around the world to develop customized preparation plans for students of all educational backgrounds.
