Event description
Understand why domestic abuse is so complex in this 2 hr online workshop delivered on zoom.

About this event

This session is funded by Essex Community Foundation and The National Lottery Community Fund.

Suffering from domestic abuse may be just one of many challenges that a victim is facing. This workshop explores both the manifestation of domestic abuse in terms of trauma and psychological torture but also explores different needs, vulnerabilities and barriers that both victims and perpetrators face which complicate creating any sustainable changes in their circumstances. Gender, Mental Health, Substance Misuse as well as Unemployment, Minority Ethnic Groups and LGBTQ communities form part of this workshop in order to understand better the challenges that complicate domestic abuse even more and facilitate the cycle of abuse further. Spotting the signs and creating effective and safe help and support are explored.

Organiser Alpha Vesta CIC

Organiser of The Complexity of Domestic Abuse

Alpha Vesta CIC provide training and consultancy in domestic abuse for businesses and organisations across Essex.  In the UK, the Home Office calculates the national costs of domestic abuse as £66 billion including police, criminal justice system, social care, health and mental health sector costs as well as to the economy.   With 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men affected by domestic abuse at some point during their adult life and 1/3 of all violent crime in Essex being domestic related, the impact is widespread across communities and impacts directly in the workplace.  Victims and their children live in fear of what the next day will bring and their family and friends often struggle to understand why their loved one doesn’t ‘just leave’.
