About this event

  • Event lasts 6 hours

We will be working in one of the six meadows in Crane Park, working to control dominant and unwanted plant species.

In this session, we will be continuing our work in the Hospital Bridge meadow, on the corner of the A316 and Hospital Bridge Road (directly north of Willow Way). We will be hand pulling stands of creeping thistle and stinging nettles. We may also move into the main Crane Park meadow to complete canopy lifting and bramble pushback.

Some species can fast become dominant/invasive in open meadow spaces. They will often form dense stands in spring and summer, which shades out wildflower and grass species. Removal is often done in spring and early summer, before seed heads are able to form, to contain the growth/spread of the plant.

Dependent on species, we will be utilising a mixture of mattocking, digging, and hand pulling removal techniques.

We will meet at Hospital Bridge Meadow, on the intersection of Hospital Bridge Road and the A316, at 10am. Look out for the TCV van which will be parked onsite.

Organized by

The Conservation Volunteers is a charity working to connect people to green spaces to deliver lasting outcomes for both.

The Biodiversity Action Team (BAT) West London are always looking for new and keen volunteers, whether you are able to volunteer as a one off or you have the time to join us once a week! Each week is different, and you will be part of a friendly and welcoming team of regular volunteers.

We undertake a range of practical conservation activities in both urban and rural areas including tree planting, wildflower meadow management, coppicing, pond management and river works. We also complete hedge laying, build wildlife refugia, and clear footpaths. We create accessible green spaces through step and pathway building and enhance biodiversity in greenspaces, such as pocket parks and school grounds.

You don’t need to have any practical skills – we’ll help you learn!
