About this event

Charity & Causes • Environment

We will be coppicing within the dense secondary woodland in Oak Ave LNR. This work will respace the woodland and provide a varying age structure. The reserve is managed for biodiversity by LBRuT.

To coppice is to fell a tree/sapling at its base (or 'stool') which promotes growth of further shoots. The result is multi-stemmed bushier growth.

Coppicing is a traditional form of woodland management, with its use dating back to the Stone Age. Coppicing was originally used to ensure source of firewood and timber. Contemporarily, coppicing is primarily used to improve the health and biodiversity of woodland areas.

Please wear long-sleeves to this event as we will be working with thorny trees (bramble, hawthorn, blackthorn), so let's reduce scratch risk!

Meet at the Oak Avenue Nature Reserve entrance located on Oak Avenue, Hampton, at 10am. Look for the TCV van.
