Event description

Description

With 21 signatories, 1 National Coordinator and 1 Energy Agency, Latvian municipalities are making significant steps towards committing themselves to the new Covenant 2030 targets and engaging in taking a joint approach to climate adaptation and mitigation. The national policy context is creating momentum for local governments’ climate action, following the adoption of the new Energy Efficiency Law in March 2017 – which establishes a Municipal Energy Efficiency Fund to finance the implementation of energy efficiency measures foreseen by municipal development planning documents, and of energy management systems in municipalities. In addition, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development will adopt the Latvian National Adaptation Strategy in the second half of 2017.

The workshop - co-organised with the Latvian Association of Local and Regional Governments - will thus be the occasion to look into good practices from Latvian Signatories, to discuss recent national policy developments and opportunities, and to reinforce a macro-regional Baltic approach through exchanges with local governments from neighbouring countries (Estonia, Lithuania).

Interpretation will be provided in English and Latvian.
