Speakers Bio
Amanda Ellis leads Global Partnerships and Strategic Initiatives for the ASU Julie Ann Wrigley Global Futures Laboratory. Amanda is co-chair of the WE Empower UN SDG Challenge to promote women’s economic empowerment, launched by the UN Secretary General and the Council Of Women World Leaders at the United Nations General Assembly in 2018.
Amanda is former New Zealand Ambassador to the UN (Geneva 2013-16) and Prime Minister’s Special Envoy. An economist by training, Amanda held senior roles at the World Bank (Lead Specialist Gender), the International Finance Corporation (Head of the Global Gender Unit) and Westpac Banking Corporation (National Manager Women in Business). As Deputy Secretary in the NZ Foreign Ministry Amanda was the first woman to lead the Overseas Development Assistance (ODA) Programme, managing an annual budget of over $0.6 billion.
The author of two best-selling Random House books on women in business, five research titles on gender and growth in the World Bank Directions in Development series and the 2020 Gender Equality and Governance Index, Amanda is a founding member of the Financial Alliance for Women and the recipient of the TIAW Lifetime Achievement Award for services to women’s economic empowerment.
