Event description

Description

On the night of the 30 November 1936, an epic blaze burnt down the Crystal Palace! The fire could be seen from Hampstead Heath to the north and the South Downs to the south, 6 million gallons of water were exhausted to try to stem the flames, and it was remembered vividly by thousands of Londoners for years after.

The day after the anniversary of the 36 fire, the Crystal Palace Museum is holding a special walk of the park to tell the story of a number of the Palace fires culminating in the 36 one. An anniversary walk with added poignancy this year, as the Crystal Palace stood for 82 years and it burnt down 82 years ago!

The walk to be followed by mince pies, biscuits and hot drinks and special opening of the museum.

This will be a very hot ticket! So, come and take the Great Crystal Palace Fire Walk with us!

The talk starts at 12:00 on Saturday 1st December 2018, doors open 11:45. The talk to last 45 minutes followed by questions. Visitors will be welcomed to browse the Museum.
