About this Event

On the night of the 30 November 1936, an epic blaze burnt down the Crystal Palace! The fire could be seen from Hampstead Heath to the north and the South Downs to the south, 6 million gallons of water were exhausted to try to stem the flames, and it was remembered vividly by thousands of Londoners for years after. And in fact the 1936 fire was just one of nine which broke out on the site over the years! The exhibition site had attracted nearly 100 million visitors during the 82 years it stood there and was one of the original and most famous exhibition sites in the world – all gone over one awful night.

On the day of the anniversary of the 1936 fire, the Crystal Palace Museum is holding a special tour of the park to tell the story of that epic night and a few of the lesser known fires.

The tour will be followed by mince pies, biscuits and hot drinks during a special opening of the museum.

This will be a very hot ticket! So, come and take the Great Crystal Palace Fire Walk with us!
