The CWGC in Film – moving stories, moving images
Sat 27 May 2017, 13:30 – 16:00 BST
The Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) commemorates 1,700,000 men and women of the Commonwealth forces who died in the two world wars. Their names are inscribed on headstones and memorials in 23,000 different locations, in over 150 countries around the world, and their details are recorded in our online register at www.cwgc.org
2017 marks the centenary of the CWGC. As part of a year-long programme of events we are giving you the opportunity to view some of the film footage held within our archive collection, including the unedited versions of two CWGC films - ‘I Will Make You A Name’ and ‘Debt of Honour’, which tell the story of this unique organisation. In addition, footage of unveiling and commemorative events at a number of our cemetery and memorial sites, much of which has never been released for public viewing before, will also be screened.
Before and after the screening, attendees will have the opportunity to visit our Centenary exhibition, housed in the Canadian Records building at Brookwood Military Cemetery, and can also participate in guided tours of the cemetery itself, the largest CWGC cemetery in the UK.
