"That deep fear we all have of being wrong, of being belittled and of feeling less than, is what stops us taking the very risks required to move our companies forward"*
I have been bringing this work to support women in the workplace since 2012 and feel that it is now time to bring the work to men too. So for the first time I am introducing a workshop specifically for men in advertising. This workshop.
Throughout the course we will explore what it would take to truly show up in the workplace - how understanding courage, resilience and authenticity requires understanding vulnerability, fear and the things that keep us playing small. We will look at how gender stereotypes set up expectations for you as men - and what it takes to break free of those stereotypes and show up truly as yourself. We are moving away from a 'coerce and control' leadership model into a more empathic, vulnerable and collaborative approach - what do you need to learn about yourself in order to step in to the new world order?
The Daring Way™ is a highly experiential methodology based on the research of Brené Brown, exploring courage, resilience and authenticity in the workplace.
During the process we will also explore...
- the beliefs that we hold which stop us from stepping in to our leadership, our creativity and our innovation
- the behaviours that we engage in which get in the way of connection
- the attributes and the barriers to empathy in the workplace, and how to close the gap
- the incremental, small moments that can build or break trust
- the importance of vulnerability to unleash vision in the workplace
- how choosing courage over comfort will drive leadership behaviours and employee engagement
The course will be facilitated by Roxanne Hobbs (CPCC, ACC, DWF). Roxanne is the founder of The Hobbs Consultancy, which was born out of a sense that corporations must be able to do more to support women through key transitions in the workplace. Working at Managing Partner level in the media industry, she saw for herself the challenges that women face – specifically in the step up in to leadership and also through maternity. More recently Roxanne has began to speak about how gender stereotyping harms everybody and is trying to get men involved more in the conversation.
The workshop will be co-led by Iain Christie. In addition to his qualifications in law, mediation and performing arts, Iain is a Certified Imago Professional Facilitator and certified Daring WayTM Facilitator – Candidate. He is Secretary of the Civil Mediation Council, a Director of IMPRESS the Independent Monitor for the Press and an Associate Member of the leading media law chambers, 5RB. Iain’s own transition from a legal and diplomatic background into theatre and facilitation provides an inspirational model of the courage and leadership qualities that are needed for personal and professional development, as well as the necessity of finding creative and joyful ways of expressing ourselves.
Dr. Brené Brown Ph.D. LMSW is a research professor at the University of Houston Graduate College of Social Work. She has spent the past twelve years studying vulnerability, courage, worthiness, and shame. She is the author of two #1 New York Times bestsellers; Daring Greatly: How the Courage to Be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent, and Lead (2012), and The Gifts of Imperfection (2010).
