There is a growing interest in the provision of loan finance for social enterprises and other purpose organisations. While the supply of investment for social enterprise may be expanding, there remain questions over the nature of the demand for loan finance for social enterprises. The paper will draw on analysis of the recent SEUK survey (2013) to identify where there is current use of loan finance. The results will add to debates on the nature of finance for the social economy and the roles of commercial banks as well as specialist social investment organisations.
