This rally is part of the Fabian fringe at Labour party conference 2016, and is being held in partnership with the Joseph Rowntree Reform Trust.
Trust in politics and politicians is in freefall. The Conservatives are eroding democratic freedoms with cuts to opposition funding and gags on charities. Labour is losing its connection with thousands of voters across the UK. To rise to this challenge, the Labour movement must start talking about a new agenda for democratic reform. It must set out how it will reform our elections, improve the diversity of our politicians, and start to rebuild trust.
Speakers include: Jonathan Reynolds MP (Labour MP for Stalybridge and Hyde), Melanie Onn MP (Labour MP for Great Grimsby), Wayne David MP (Labour MP for Caerphilly), Clive Lewis MP (Labour MP for Norwich South), Jon Ashworth MP (Labour MP for Leicester South), Alexandra Runswick (director, Unlock Democracy), Katie Ghose (chief executive, Electoral Reform Society), Stephen Bush (special correspondent, New Statesman), Ellie Reeves (Labour's former National Executive Committee member). Chaired by Olivia Bailey (research director, Fabian Society)
