Description

Policy and Practice Series: 'The Democratic Duty to oppose Brexit'.

Many people argue that there is a duty not to oppose the result of the UK's referendum on EU membership on 23 June 2016. This presentation will argue the contrary. For UK citizens who think the referendum result to be a mistake, there is a duty to oppose Brexit as a result of taking democratic obligation seriously. The presentation will explain why and how.

Albert Weale is Emeritus Professor of Political Theory and Public Policy in the School of Public Policy, UCL. He has written widely on democratic theory and EU politics and policy. His most recent book is Democratic Justice and the Social Contract (Oxford University Press, 2013).
