13:30 – Q&A

14:00 - Close for AGM

This lecture, in honour of Derek Hoy who was a visionary colleague, will consider the massive emergence and transitory acceptance of digital technology within healthcare over the past eighteen months brought about by the coronavirus pandemic.

The presentation will take a considered view into the near future and highlight the anticipated digital disruption to traditional healthcare practise that will require significant re-design of the ways in which we work. The need to ‘flip’ our understanding of information in order to generate a power base for the transition of healthcare is central to the future of care provision, moving from an illness service to that of a true health service will be core to the presentation. A challenge to all will conclude the presentation.

Paula is a registered nurse, academic and information futurist, she has been a leader in the use of technology to support healthcare since 1979 when she implemented the Exeter Computerised Nursing System in England. Since that time she has led informatics developments in practice, education and management. She is widely published particularly around the application of technology and informatics techniques to support the nursing contribution of compassionate patient care and health outcomes. She developed an online course for undergraduate nurses, midwives and allied health professions students in 2009 and this continues with some 2,500 students enrolled. In 2013 Paula was honoured to be chosen to deliver the first Derek Hoy Memorial Lecture and it is an even greater honour to be invited back this year.

Our events are for adults aged 16 years and over.
