Event description

Description

Leading in to Dementia Action Week 2019, come and join us at St Andrew's Church Shifnal for a performance of "The Disappearance of Eliza Grey", an inventive and entertaining show which explores the issues around dementia-friendly communities. The play lasts for 70 minutes and in the interval we'll be serving tea and cakes.

More about the play? How would you react if you couldn’t be seen or heard? Eliza is struggling to work out why no one in her rural church community will listen to her. Their fears, feelings and good intentions may be the prime suspect, or maybe it’s just her dementia? Eliza needs the local detective to hear her before it’s too late. The cast of two lead the audience through the challenges every community faces when dementia is diagnosed, offering possible ways of becoming more dementia friendly, so that people living with dementia can be enabled to live as well as they can. Susannah Hallcroft (known to some of us as Su Parker), has lived alongside dementia through caring for her dad and now works on dementia-friendly churches as a Dementia Enabler in The Black Country for the Diocese of Lichfield. This has lead her to write and perform in "The Disappearance of Eliza Grey".

"Pay it forward": There's no charge for this event - so bring along friends and family, neighbours and colleagues, the more the merrier! On the day, there will be an opportunity to make a donation so that the play can be shared in another community on the same "pay it forward" basis: we aim to raise £300 to cover the cost of the next performance of "Eliza Grey" locally. "Pay it forward" is part of a worldwide movement of people who are keen to enable others to benefit from a great experience that has helped them, or even transformed their lives: we are inviting people who come to join us in this initiative.

Support for this performance: There's been a real community effort to enable us to offer the play free of charge, using a "pay it forward" model. Thanks to all who have donated money and creative skills towards this performance! There are some amazing crochet-ers in Shifnal - busily crocheting first Christmas badges and then forget-me-nots to help us fund this performance. We're really glad to work in partnership with Victoria Holland and all at the Coop in Shifnal on this - thanks for your commitment in making and selling forget-me-nots to help fund this performance.
