Date and time

Fri, 10 May 2019 09:30 - 18:00 GMT+1

Location

Paul Mellon Centre

16 Bedford Square London WC1B 3JA United Kingdom

Description

This symposium offers an opportunity for doctoral students to share their work on topics related to the history of British art and architecture. It will provide a friendly and supportive environment for researchers to develop works-in-progress and to test out new ideas.

The aim of the day is to showcase the diverse range of new research into British art and architecture currently being undertaken by doctoral students, and to highlight areas of cross-over and connection with a view to stimulating discussion, collaboration and new ideas. As this will be the inaugural symposium hosted by the Paul Mellon Centre’s Doctoral Researchers Network, contributions on the day will also help to shape the activities of the DRN going forward. The event is free to attend and lunch will be provided. A full programme is available here.

The symposium finishes with a drinks reception and networking event, hosted in collaboration with our sister network, Early Career Researchers in British Art. If you cannot attend the whole symposium, you are welcome to come just for the networking event in the evening - click here to book an evening-only ticket.

Please note: booking for the Symposium closes on Friday 3 May 2019 at midday.

The DRN is a collective for doctoral students to acquire key skills critical to their research and professional development. The network is run by two co-convenors – Lucy Shaw and Jennifer Warren.

The network will stage events and activities that will provide academic and CPD (continuing professional development) skills, such as workshops for dissertation writing, conference paper writing and presentation, preparing for upgrades and vivas, grant writing, and much more. The network will also provide opportunities for members to present on-going research, network with academics in the field, and provide assistance with applying for post-doctoral fellowships and jobs.

The DRN will serve as an opportunity for members to connect with colleagues all over the country, which will in turn create a supportive and creative environment that will aid members through the process of researching, writing, and publishing their dissertation.

In its aim to support and promote academic research and publishing in British art history, the Paul Mellon Centre is proud to be able to facilitate and support this forward looking endeavour, and look forward to encouraging the next generation of scholars.
