About this event

Travel & Outdoor • Hiking

Peak Outdoor Coaching offers women-only walk and courses in and around the Peak District National Park. This beautiful route takes us to the popular Chrome Hill, which is very busy at the weekends, but quiet and peaceful midweek so a Monday is the perfect time to visit. In any weather and any season, this walk is simply stunning. We also summit Hollins Hill - another Peak District 'Ethel' and learn about the Bronze Age history. Depending on the weather and ground conditions, we may add on Parkhouse Hill (optional challenge).

This 9km loop has over 1000ft of elevation on footpaths of mixed terrain but some are uneven, steep and rocky in places so a good level of fitness and some hill-walking experience and sure-footedness is required. This walk is classed as moderate/intermediate for that reason.

Distance: 5.5 miles/9km

Level: Easy/Moderate/Challenging - Some uneven terrain and Chrome Hill has some rocky and steep sections. Parkhouse Hill is an optional challenge, which will only go ahead if the conditions are safe. There are stiles on route.

Elevation: 1300ft/420m

Time: 3-4 hours

Who will be your guide?

I’m Emily, Founder of Peak Outdoor Coaching and I’m a Mountain Leader based in Glossop at the edge of the Dark Peak. I’ve always been outdoorsy since being a young girl but hiking became a real obsession in 2019 when I started to go solo. I aim to inspire other women to learn the many benefits of exploring in the outdoors and I’m passionate about sharing my love for adventure with you!

Transport:

We'll be meeting in Hollinsclough Village Centre near to the Tea Shop/Church Google Maps. There is some roadside parking along this road (Hollinsclough, Buxton SK17 0RH), which is free to park. I am always happy to car share from Glossop so do let me know if you're based in the area or would like to jump in at Buxton (nearest train station).

What to bring:

  • Hiking boots or grippy trail shoes with ankle support
  • Snacks/lunch
  • Rucksack
  • Water (at least 1L)
  • Waterproofs and warm layers
  • Hat and gloves
  • Sun hat/sun cream
  • Walking Poles (optional)
  • A small first aid kit with any personal medication

Terrain:

Mostly trails and footpaths, some uneven, steep and rocky ascents and descents. Stiles to climb over. Always be prepared for mud this time of year!

Toilets:

There are no toilets at the parking area, but there is a tea shop in the village. There are no toilets along the way on the walk so we may have to embrace the good old ‘wild wees’ whilst we’re out! There are plenty of little hidden spots for us to squat in private!

Safety:

The whole point of our walks is that they are enjoyable and memorable experiences for everyone so we will keep to a slow and steady pace. It's about taking in the views, learning about the history and geology of the area and being in nature, not about rushing to the finish line. Having said that, you are responsible for your own health and safety and with all outdoor activities, there can be risks involved. If you are unsure as to whether you are fit to come on this walk, please either consult your doctor or let us know your concerns. Please inform us of any medical conditions prior to the walk. Every participant MUST complete a Medical Form, which will be sent out a few days before the event.

Our leaders are qualified Hill and Moorland and Mountain Leaders and level 3 Outdoor First Aid trained so they will be on hand in case of an emergency.

See our full T&Cs here.

Dogs:

Dogs are more than welcome to come along, however, there will be livestock around and potentially other dogs, so they will need to stay on a lead for parts of it. Your dog must be able to deal with the terrain involved and not pose any risk to others in the group.

Refund Policy:

Your ticket is non-refundable. If you can no longer make the walk, you may sell your ticket on but please let me know if you do so. I cannot sell your ticket for you.

And FINALLY:

This walk will be going ahead whatever the weather, unless I deem the conditions dangerous so be ready to embrace the good old British weather! If I do have to cancel the walk for safety reasons, I will suggest one more date for the walk to be rearranged or you can redeem your ticket on one other walk on a date suitable to you.
