Last year our Assistant Archivist, Sarah Aitken, delivered a talk about the concept, building and opening of the Caird Hall to mark its 100th Official Birthday. Now Dr Jim McKellican takes up the story and takes us through the story of the performances and events that took place at the Caird Hall in its early years. The talk will feature information about the famous Caird Hall Organ as well as some of the many famous faces to have graced the stage of the Caird Hall.

Retired GP, Jim had the luxury of practising medicine when he was able to combine academic medicine with his career. His main hobby has been playing the pipe organ and this eventually led to being first chair of the Friends of the Caird Hall Organ (SC041021), for many years its main fundraiser and is still its archivist. As well as academic papers, he has published on his family history, “The Hospitals of Blairgowrie and Rattray” (Tayside Medical History Committee) and “The Caird Hall Jewel.”

Doors open from12.30pm at the Glasite Hall on King Street. Please enter from the churchyard or the east side of the building (the lift is available from both sides but the accessible door is at the east entrance). You DO NOT need to bring a printed ticket.

Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available to purchase before the talk. Entry to the talks are free but if you would like to make a donation towards the hire of the hall, there will be a donations tin available.

If you need to cancel for any reason, please do so via Eventbrite or email us on archives@dundeecity.gov.uk.
