Join us as we explore the relationship between the development of the capitalist economic system and constructions of sexuality
About this event
Homophobia and transphobia are colonial legacies. Colonial legacies that continue to create systems of inequality for Queer Trans Black people and People of Colour (QTBPOC).
Be it the abysmal lack of access to wealth, healthcare and housing, or the immigration system actively trying to erase us - racialised Queer and Trans people are excluded and punished by the design of the economy.
In this gorgeous hour we’ll explore the relationship between the development of the capitalist economic system and constructions of sexuality and gender.
We will hear from QTBPOC activists and artists who are challenging the economic system through building cooperatives and community wealth building models, creating radical alternative community spaces for healing, developing ideas and spaces that challenge our culture of scarcity and using art to reimagine queer economic futures.
This event is part of our Decolonising Futures programme of events exploring the framework for a just transition - taking us from understanding the colonial mindset of the extractive economy, applying the social justice filter to our actions for moving capital and shifting power, and supporting our ideas and visions for building a solidarity economy.
This event supports our crowdfunder: https://www.gofundme.com/f/nourishing-our-communities investing in BPOC-led cooperative futures
Who's this workshop for?
This workshop is aimed at those who are ready to explore some of the deeper and more nuanced truths around racism that we often miss in our strategies and practices around racial justice organising.
By attending, what am I agreeing to?
This workshop will be a space of collective learning. By attending, you are agreeing to be part of a community, working together to explore ideas and concepts together. Please come with an open mind, and an open heart.
We will not make space for: racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, classism, casteism, ableism and other oppressive dynamics. By attending you are agreeing to respect those around you, and will be open to being held in a learning moment, if the moment arises
